Woman wins civil rape case against MMA fighter Conor McGregor, awarded €248K in damages
Nikita Hand has won her civil rape case against Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, with a jury awarding her €248,603.60 in damages.
Hand accused McGregor of "brutally raping and battering" her at a hotel in south Dublin in December 2018.
McGregor, who had previously testified that the encounter was consensual, denied the allegations, stating that he had engaged in consensual sex with Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel.
In a separate case, Hand, also known as Nikita Ní Laimhín, had previously lost a civil lawsuit against another man, James Lawrence, whom she accused of sexual assault at the same hotel.
After eight days of testimony and three days of closing speeches, the jury, which included eight women and four men, deliberated for six hours and 10 minutes before returning their verdict in favour of Hand.
The case has sparked attention, shedding light on issues of consent and the legal complexities surrounding such cases.
