Global South World's backstory
Global South World was established in 2023 to fill a gap created by the rise of populous, powerful nations outside of the traditional power structures which dominated geopolitics during the previous century.
In effect, international media organisations, focused on the disruption to their business operations caused by changing consumer habits, have not kept pace with changes in the wider world.
Global South World is backed by the Impactum Group. It has no ties to governments and operates with editorial independence. You can find its mission statement here.
The founding editor is Ismail Akwei. Based in Accra, Ghana, Ismail has led several national and international media companies and also serves as Executive Director of the Media Literacy Development Foundation. He is part of The McCain Institute Global Leaders programme.
Duncan Hooper is group consulting editor, working across sister titles including worldvisualized.com and qonversations.com. Duncan has worked as a media executive at international brands including CGTN Europe, Microsoft and Euronews.
Global South World’s team is based in Accra; London, UK; La Paz, Bolivia; Brussels, Belgium; and Manila, the Philippines.
