On 26 October 2025, Argentina holds key partial legislative elections which, while mid-term in nature, carry greater significance than usual under the presidency of Javier Milei.

Voters will renew 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 seats in the Senate — making up half the lower house and a third of the upper house, respectively.

The outcome could shift the legislative landscape substantially. Milei’s coalition is seeking to secure at least a third of the Congress, giving it the power to block or shape legislation and protect its vetoes. At the same time, opposition groups are aiming to roll back what they describe as the government’s “destabilising” economic and political agenda.

Beyond mere numbers, these elections are being viewed as a referendum on direction and stability. The result may affect Argentina’s ability to pass major reforms, influence the country’s economic recovery path, and set the tone for the next presidential contest. With a highly polarised electorate and rising economic pressures, the stakes are high not just for Argentina, but for regional observers assessing the strength of liberal versus populist trends across Latin America.
