ASEAN to hold special meeting to address US tariffs impact: Video

Southeast Asian economic ministers will convene on April 10 to discuss the regional impact of recent US tariffs, Malaysia’s Trade Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz announced.
Malaysia, serving as the Chair of ASEAN in 2025, has called for the special meeting to address the effects of the tariffs on trade, investment, and macroeconomic stability. Aziz made the announcement during a press conference on Monday, April 7.
"I think two wrongs don't make a right, and it's important that we remain calm," he said.
Earlier the same day, Aziz posted on X (formerly Twitter) about a meeting with US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan. “We clarified concerns around the tariff issue and explored ways to strengthen our economic partnership,” he wrote.
Six out of the nine Southeast Asian countries named by former US President Donald Trump were subjected to tariffs ranging from 32% to 49%, exceeding initial expectations.
