Cambodia deputy PM calls Donald Trump 'President of Peace'

Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol has praised U.S. President Donald Trump as the “President of Peace,” calling for him to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize following his intervention in the ongoing border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.

The two Southeast Asian nations agreed to a ceasefire on Tuesday, July 29, after five days of deadly clashes along their shared border, which left at least 43 people dead on both sides and displaced hundreds.

The breakthrough came during high-level talks brokered in Malaysia, where President Trump reportedly played a central mediating role. Both Thailand and Cambodia had been actively courting the U.S. leader as they sought to secure favourable trade agreements and avoid steep tariffs threatened by Washington.

The truce marks a significant de-escalation in a conflict that had threatened to spiral into a wider regional crisis. Details of the ceasefire agreement have not been fully disclosed, but observers say it includes a withdrawal of troops from contested areas and the establishment of a joint monitoring mechanism.
