Chad government determined to 'hunt down and annihilate' Boko Haram: Video
Chad called on the international community to enhance support for counter-terrorism efforts in the Sahel on Tuesday, October 29, following a deadly attack by Boko Haram jihadists.
The attack resulted in the deaths of around 40 Chadian soldiers. The assault, which occurred late Sunday at a military garrison in the Lake Chad region, also left approximately 20 others wounded.
In a statement released by government spokesman Abderaman Koulamallah, Chad's government emphasized the need for increased international assistance in combatting terrorism, particularly in the Sahel and Lake Chad basin.
"Determined collective action is essential to eradicate this scourge which threatens the stability and development of the entire region," the statement read.
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has initiated a military operation to track down the attackers, with security forces actively pursuing the assailants.
In solidarity, France's embassy in Chad expressed condolences for the fallen troops and reiterated its commitment to supporting Chad in the fight against terrorism.
In response to the recent attack, the government has declared three days of national mourning, with flags at half-mast and a ban on celebratory activities.
