China expresses hope for 'peaceful coexistence' with us as trump nears election victory: Video
China has expressed a desire for continued "peaceful coexistence" with the United States.
In a regular briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed China’s commitment to stable relations with Washington, regardless of the U.S. election outcome, the AFP reports.
"We will continue to approach and handle China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation," Mao said. Stressing that Beijing’s policy towards the U.S. has been "consistent," she avoided any direct reference to Trump’s potential return to office, stating that the election is "an internal affair of the United States."
When asked about a possible congratulatory call from President Xi Jinping if Trump’s victory is confirmed, Mao stated, "After the U.S. election results are released and officially announced, we will handle related matters in accordance with usual practice."
China-U.S. relations have experienced tension in recent years with disputes over trade, technology, and regional security.
