China says US-Japan tie 'should contribute to peace and security, not undermine it': Video
China has urged the United States and Japan to ensure their alliance promotes regional peace rather than undermines stability, amid growing military cooperation between Washington and Tokyo.
Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday, October 28, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the Asia-Pacific region should remain “a bastion of peaceful development,” warning against actions that could escalate geopolitical tensions.
“The development of bilateral relations and security cooperation between the United States and Japan should contribute to maintaining regional peace and stability, not undermine it,” Guo stated.
His remarks came shortly after US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met in Tokyo the same day, declaring a “new Golden Age” in the US-Japan alliance — a sentiment that echoes Trump’s recent emphasis on strengthening bilateral military and economic ties.
