Congo River Alliance accuses Kinshasa of violating ceasefire over renewed fighting in Kivu: Video

The leader of the Congo River Alliance (AFC), Cornielle Nangaa, has accused the Congolese army of launching renewed offensives in North and South Kivu, in violation of a ceasefire agreement signed just days ago in Doha under Qatari mediation.

"The Kinshasa regime has chosen war over peace," Nangaa declared. "The Doha process exists, we are committed to it, and our delegation is participating in it. But it is now clear that all this is nothing more than window dressing to buy time," he told the press.

While reaffirming the group's continued participation in the Doha talks, Nangaa warned that persistent military aggression by government forces could jeopardise their involvement. “We are subjected to continuous and repeated bombings… our good faith has limits. We will not allow criminals to continue killing our people,” he said.

Local reports have confirmed an uptick in violence across the conflict-ridden Kivu provinces, including a recent attack on the Twangiza mining site, Viory reports. The clashes come as the peace process, mediated by Qatar and aimed at ending long-standing hostilities, remains fragile and under threat.
