EU top diplomat says Lebanon on 'brink of collapse': Video
Lebanon is "on the brink of collapse," according to Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy chief.
The country continues to face the devastating aftermath of Israel's airstrikes and escalating tensions with Hezbollah.
Borrell made the remarks on Sunday, November 24 during a visit to Beirut, expressing deep concern over Lebanon’s fragile state following months of conflict.
Borrell, who had visited Lebanon earlier in September to prevent further escalation, highlighted the severe toll the ongoing clashes have had on the country. "Back in September, I came with the hope that we could prevent a full-fledged war with Israel attacking Lebanon. Two months later, Lebanon is on the brink of collapse," the AFP quoted Borrell.
Lebanon, once a relatively peaceful country, has seen its infrastructure, including vital hospitals and water supplies, severely damaged by the recent conflict.
As the situation worsens, the international community, including the EU, has expressed increasing concern about Lebanon's future, urging all parties involved to seek a ceasefire and de-escalate tensions.
