Gaza residents turn to clay pots for cooling amid power outages
Amid ongoing power outages in the war-torn Gaza Strip, residents are turning to clay pots to keep their water cool in the scorching heat. With electricity supply being sporadic, traditional refrigerators are often unusable.
"This clay pot keeps water cold, as we can't use refrigerators because there is no electricity," One resident said. This shift to clay pots highlights the resourcefulness of the Palestinian people as they adapt to the challenging conditions.
Israel intensified the blockade of the Gaza Strip following the Hamas-led attack on Israel and the subsequent Israel-Hamas war, in October 2023. Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a "total blockade," halting the entry of food, water, medicine, fuel, and electricity into Gaza.
The Israeli blockade of the occupied Gaza Strip, in its current form, has been in place since June 2007. Israel controls Gaza’s airspace and territorial waters, as well as two of the three border crossing points; the third is controlled by Egypt.
