Hong Kong journalist at Wall Street Journal fired over press freedom: Video

A reporter for the Wall Street Journal, Selina Cheng, has been fired from post after running for a top position at the press union in Hong Kong.

The head of the Hong Kong Journalists Association (HKJA) said she was on the morning of July 17 after she refused to adhere to directives from her senior editors at the paper to refrain from vying for the position.

According to Selina, she was also asked to refrain from advocating for media freedoms in her country.

"My supervisor in the UK directed me to withdraw from the election," Cheng told reporters on Wednesday after walking out of the Journal's Hong Kong bureau.
