How Japan, South Korea, and U.S. are responding to North Korea’s missile launch: Video

Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has confirmed that Tokyo, Seoul, and Washington are working closely together after North Korea launched a ballistic missile, prompting emergency security briefings across the region.

Takaichi said Japan has not confirmed any missile entering its territorial waters or exclusive economic zone, and no reports of damage have been received. Still, she has instructed the ministers of defence and foreign affairs to continue gathering intelligence and ensure the safety of citizens.

The missile warning data is being shared in real time between the three allies as part of a growing regional security cooperation effort amid Pyongyang’s continued weapons testing.

“South Korea announced that North Korea had launched a ballistic missile, so I changed my plans to go out and have just received a report on the situation. Japan, the United States, and South Korea are working closely together, including sharing missile warning data in real time, to ensure a thorough response. The government is aware of this latest launch,” she told the press.

This is first diplomatic test after assuming office only a day prior.
