Is Indonesia making a shift from sidelines to central stage in global diplomacy?: Video

At the United Nations General Assembly, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called on global leaders to support a two-state solution as the only real path to peace between Israel and Palestine.

Pushing for a reconciliation and safety for both sides, Prabowo, representing the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, told the UN, “We must have an independent Palestine. But we must also recognise, we must also respect, and we must also guarantee the safety and security of Israel. Only then can we have real peace, no longer hate, suspicion. The only solution is this two-state solution. Two descendants of Abraham must live in reconciliation, peace, and harmony.”

Indonesia has always supported Palestinian independence, but its presidents rarely speak directly at the UN. Its leaders have typically spoken through foreign ministers rather than taking the UN podium themselves.

Indonesia, home to over 270 million people, is one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement.
