Jerusalem residents welcome ceasefire as 'best news' in two years of war: Video

Residents of Jerusalem reacted with relief on Thursday, October 9 after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered by the United States and hailed as a potential turning point in the two-year conflict.

Footage from the city shows locals walking through Jerusalem’s historic alleyways as news spread that all hostages alive or deceased would be returned and humanitarian aid would be allowed into Gaza under the terms of the deal.

“We're very happy to hear that. It's about time. After two years, we want our people back. But we're not sure it's real yet. When we see them physically here, we’ll be very happy,” said Oran, a Jerusalem resident.

Oran also praised former U.S. President Donald Trump’s role in mediating the deal, calling for him to be recognised internationally.
