Maduro marks 'triumph' as opposition protests one month into Venezuela's elections: Video

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has marked the one-month anniversary since the National Electoral Council declared him the winner of his controversial re-election.

Speaking to supporters, Maduro proclaimed, “Today we can say that the truth and the love of the immense majority of the people have triumphed.”

He continued by further reflecting on the potential consequences if the opposition had succeeded in their efforts to contest the election results.

“What would have happened if violence had prevailed on those days of July 29, 30, and 31, or if the criminals had won? How many hundreds of wounded and dead would there have been?” Maduro asked.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders and supporters continue to protest, rejecting the election results and alleging widespread fraud. The opposition remains resolute that their candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, was the rightful winner.
