Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia described the government of President Nicolás Maduro as "weak" but still "dangerous."

He cited recent actions, including the detention of his daughter's husband and attempts to target opposition leaders like Maria Corina Machado during a meeting with Venezuelan citizens in Guatemala City on January 15, 2025.

"This is a regime that is becoming more alone every day, but no less dangerous, because the weaker it is, the more dangerous it tends to be, as it is doing with many people, including my relatives who are being held hostage," he said.

The political climate in Venezuela remains tense. Despite Maduro's inauguration, the opposition, led by figures like Gonzalez Urrutia and Maria Corina Machado, continues to call for mass protests and international intervention due to election fraud.
