Millions in Haiti struggling to eat as crisis deepens

Haiti is facing its worst hunger crisis, with nearly everyone struggling to find food.
A new report by ActionAid shows that almost all families are skipping meals, and many people are going entire days without eating.
Some parents have nothing to give their children, and many families can only afford to eat every other day.
The problem is not a lack of food in the markets but the rising prices, which most people cannot afford. Armed gangs are making things worse by blocking roads and demanding bribes from truck drivers, causing food prices to go even higher. Many families have no income at all and are now in heavy debt.
A survey of nearly 200 families in two towns found that almost 90 percent had gone a full day without food in the past month. Some had gone 24 hours without eating more than 10 times.
Parents say it is heartbreaking to see their children go hungry, and some people are now forced to ask friends and relatives for food.
The situation is especially dangerous for women and girls. Some are being forced into unsafe situations just to get food.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women are also at risk, as malnutrition is making childbirth even more dangerous.
Haiti needs almost $900 million in aid, but so far, very little has been raised. Experts warn that if nothing is done soon, more people will starve to death.
