Mozambique plans national body to regulate use of artificial intelligence

Mozambique is planning to set up a new national body to oversee how artificial intelligence (AI) is used in the country, as it tries to close the gap between those with digital access and those without.
Planning and Development Minister Salim Valá announced the move during a technology fair in the capital, Maputo.
According to him, the team will include experts from different fields and will support efforts to introduce AI in a way that supports growth and inclusion.
Mr Valá said many people in Mozambique still lack access to basic technology and the internet.
This, he said, makes it difficult for them to take advantage of opportunities that come with digital progress.
The new group will help set up rules for using AI and encourage its use in public services and business, Club of Mozambique reports.
Mozambique joins other countries around the world trying to manage the rise of AI while making sure no one is left behind.
