Muslim artisans in Kashmir craft unique Christmas decorations for global markets: Video
Artisans in Kashmiri India are making a name worldwide for their handmade papier-mâché Christmas decorations.
These ornaments which are rooted in Persian tradition blend Kashmiri designs with Western holiday themes and are exported to countries like the UK and France.
However, these artisans say the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has hurt their business.
“We have just 40 percent of the work we had before the war,” artisan Muzaffar Ahmad told the AFP.
Artisans begin taking orders months before Christmas to ensure timely delivery. The demand for these decorations has grown steadily over decades, bringing significant income to the region.
