Norway tops global pizza consumption: What’s driving the craving?

If you thought the birthplace place Italy or Brazil ate the most pizza, you should see how much Norway is consuming!
According to data compiled by World Population Review, Norwegians consume 11.4 kilogrammes of pizza per person annually — an impressive figure for a country with just 5.5 million people.
Despite its cold climate and remote geography, Norway’s appetite for pizza is red-hot. The country’s pizza culture is deeply ingrained, with “Grandiosa” frozen pizza becoming a national staple. Introduced in the 1980s, Grandiosa holds iconic status, reportedly outselling all other frozen food products in the country.
Norway’s pizza supremacy is followed by other heavyweights:
- United States – 9.6 kg per person
- Canada – 8.9 kg
- Australia – 8.6 kg
- Italy – 7.6 kg
- Switzerland – 7.5 kg
- Sweden – 7.2 kg
- France – 6.8 kg
- Finland – 6.7 kg
- Germany – 6.2 kg
Interestingly, seven out of the top ten pizza-consuming countries are in Europe, and this signals a regional passion for pizza beyond its Italian origins. Northern and Western Europe, in particular, show strong preferences for frozen and delivery pizzas, blending convenience with evolving culinary habits.
