Over 500 indian nationals pardoned in UAE’s Ramadan amnesty

The United Arab Emirates has granted clemency to 1,295 prisoners, including more than 500 Indian nationals, as part of a large-scale pardon during the holy month of Ramadan.
The order was issued by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also granted amnesty to an additional 1,518 inmates.
The annual pardon allows prisoners to reunite with their families and reintegrate into society. Dubai’s Attorney General, Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, confirmed that authorities have begun processing the releases.
In addition to granting freedom, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has pledged to settle the financial obligations of those released. This move is intended to ease their transition and reduce financial strain on their families.
The Ramadan amnesty serves to strengthen diplomatic ties between the UAE and India while helping to reduce prison overcrowding.
