Patients stranded at subways as Indian doctors strike over murdered colleague: Video

Patients waiting for treatment at government hospitals in New Delhi are facing severe delays as doctors continue their strike, demanding justice for a murdered colleague.

Many are lying on the ground in a crowded subway, with some fearing that their loved ones might die before receiving care.

The strike began after the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata on August 9. Junior doctors across India have refused to provide non-emergency services, even as larger medical associations have called off the strike.

The situation has been particularly dire for those relying on free healthcare, like Oresa Khatoon, who has been waiting for ten days for her son’s appointment at AIIMS. Many patients, unable to afford private care, are left in limbo, AFP reports.

Doctors are also demanding stronger protections against violence, including the implementation of the Central Protection Act.

Meanwhile, patients continue to suffer, with some describing the situation as "unfair" and pleading for the strike to end.
