Peru's Congress voted on Thursday in favor of moving forward with a proposal to impeach President Dina Boluarte, in a late-night vote called hours after lawmakers from across the political spectrum presented motions for her removal.

The vote makes this the first of a series of impeachment motions to be admitted for debate in the conservative-dominated Congress, which has historically supported the deeply unpopular president.
