Philippine Coast Guard completes Kalayaan resupply mission in West PH sea amid distance, adverse weather
The Philippine Coast Guard successfully concluded a five-day rotation and resupply mission to the Kalayaan Island Group in the West Philippine Sea, delivering essential supplies and services despite challenging weather conditions.
BRP Cabra, one of the two 44-meter-long multi-purpose response vessels of the PCG, played a crucial role in the mission, which included a medical and dental mission on Pag-asa Island.
The inauguration of a new PCG station on Pag-asa Island, held on December 1, aimed to enhance the country's presence in the area amid rising tensions, particularly regarding Chinese aggression.
During the event, authorities observed 19 Chinese maritime militia vessels near the island, along with a China Coast Guard ship and a People's Liberation Army Navy ship.
The PCG's mission extended to other Philippine-occupied features in the Kalayaan Island Group, including Likas Island, Patag Island, and Lawak Island.
These efforts involved not only the delivery of supplies but also the return of personnel stationed in the West Philippine Sea to the mainland.
Despite the challenges posed by distance and adverse weather conditions, PCG personnel demonstrated resilience and commitment to their service.
The mission underscores the Philippines' determination to safeguard its territories in the West Philippine Sea.
