Russia's Syzran oil refinery suspended operations following a drone attack, sources say

Syzran oil refinery, operated by Russia's oil giant Rosneft, suspended oil processing on Wednesday due to a fire at the primary unit (CDU-6) following an attack by a Ukrainian drone, two industry sources told Reuters.

The governor of Russia's Samara region, where the Syzran refinery with 150,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) capacity is located, said the plant had been attacked by Ukraine overnight.

"Refining has been temporarily suspended at CDU-6 due to a fire," one of the sources said.

Rosneft did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The Syzran Oil Refinery is part of the Rosneft group of Samara refineries, which also includes the Novokuibyshevsky and Kuibyshevsky plants.

According to industry sources, the actual volume of oil refining at the Syzran Oil Refinery was well below capacity in 2024 and amounted to about 90,000 bpd or 4.3 million metric tons.

Syzran refinery was attacked by Ukraine's drones several times in 2024, also affecting its processing.
