German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has made a bold statement regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, asserting that a Russian victory or a Ukrainian collapse will not lead to lasting peace. This declaration comes amidst US President Donald Trump's plans to initiate talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aiming to bring an end to the war.

Scholz emphasised that while ending the war as quickly as possible is crucial, a Russian victory or Ukrainian collapse would not pave the way for sustainable peace. This sentiment is echoed by many experts, who warn that a ceasefire or temporary truce may not necessarily translate to lasting peace.
