Slovak PM Fico accuses EU of becoming 'force for war’: Video

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned on Sunday, October 5, that the European Union is increasingly behaving like “a force for war,” accusing Brussels of straying from its founding mission of peace.

Speaking at a memorial service marking the 81st anniversary of the Carpathian-Dukla Operation, a World War II battle fought to liberate Czechoslovakia from Nazi occupation, Fico said the EU’s current direction deeply concerned him.

“In 2004, when we joined the European Union, I was convinced that this was the only project that could guarantee peace on the European continent. However, today the European Union is becoming not a force for peace but a force for war,” he told attendees. “We talk more about war in the European Union than we talk about peace.”
