The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party, marked its 113th anniversary in Cape Town with a grand celebration at the Mandela Park sports facility.

Thousands of supporters gathered to commemorate the occasion under the theme of renewal and survival.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is both the leader of the ANC and the head of state, addressed the crowd, reaffirming the party's commitment to its founding principles while acknowledging the challenges faced in the wake of the 2024 election results.

Ramaphosa assured attendees that the ANC’s core values remain intact despite recent political setbacks.

“The false notion that the character and strategy of the ANC have now been redefined by a single tactic of forming a broad inclusive government of national unity is really a distortion of the realities our movement faces and should be dismissed out of hand,” Ramaphosa stated during his speech.

The president emphasised that the party has taken the election outcome as an opportunity for introspection and tactical renewal, seeking to strengthen its position and reconnect with its grassroots base.

Global Solidarity and Peace Calls

In addition to addressing domestic issues, Ramaphosa used the platform to reiterate South Africa’s solidarity with international struggles for justice and peace. He called for the lifting of the decades-long U.S. economic blockade on Cuba and urged for the removal of Cuba from the list of terrorist states.

“Our support for the people of Palestine continues unabated, particularly as we continue with the case in the International Court of Justice to support the struggle of the Palestinians,” Ramaphosa said.
