Students direct traffic in Bangladesh amidst police strike

Students in Bangladesh have taken over traffic warding duties following a police strike in the country.

Many police officers went on strike after the resignation of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The 'Students Against Discrimination' group, which led the protests was calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation.

The protests to reform the quota system paused after the Supreme Court scrapped most quotas on July 21. Protesters, however, returned a week after, demanding a public apology from Hasina for the violence, restoration of internet connections, reopening of college and university campuses, and release of those arrested.

After protestors clashed with police, they went on strike.

Volunteer students have since taken over various traffic stops to direct vehicles.
