Thailand's new Prime Minister Paetongtarn promises to put country on a pedestal: Video
During a press conference after her swearing-in ceremony, Thailand's new Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra did not miss an opportunity to promise the citizens a new kind of administration to restore the country's global prestige.
"It is the moment for Thailand to reclaim our place on the global stage," she said. "My cabinet and I are fully prepared to work tirelessly for our country. We are representatives of the people from diverse political parties, regions and generations. But I want to assure you that we will use our diversity as a strength to solve problems in a comprehensive and effective way."
The leader of the ruling Thai Pheu announced that her government will prioritise economic stimulation and healthcare improvements to enhance citizens' lives over the next three years.
"We have discussed areas where adjustments may be necessary to align with the current situation. While the policies remain largely the same, they have been refined to address present needs, and we are confident we can implement them successfully. We aim to complete our work over the next three years and continue with the initiatives we've already started."
The youngest premier acknowledged the challenges faced by the ousted PM Srettha and assured that his policies will be continued.
“Despite the change in the prime minister and cabinet members, we are reaffirming that, as Srettha was also from the Pheu Thai Party, our policies will remain largely similar," Paetongtarn said.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the heiress to Thailand's most renowned political dynasty, was sworn in as prime minister on Friday, September 6, after a busy month that saw her predecessor ousted and the main opposition party dissolved.
