'They are not against China', Sheinbaum talks about 50% Asian car tariff: Video
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday, Sepetmber 12 pushed back against criticism from China over her government’s plan to impose 50 percent tariffs on vehicles from Asian countries starting in 2026.
Speaking at her daily press conference in Mexico City, Sheinbaum rejected claims that the move was “coercive” or specifically targeted at Beijing.
“These are not coercive measures, and they are not against China. It is a decision made based on the strengthening of our economy," she said. "This is not directed against any particular country."
