UAE to start tech lessons from Kindergarten
The United Arab Emirates will begin teaching technology in all government schools from the next academic year, including at the kindergarten level.
The move is part of the country’s plan to prepare young people for a future shaped by digital tools and fast-changing global trends.
According to officials, the lessons will help children understand how modern technologies work and also explore the values and responsibilities that come with using them.
Dubai ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the decision on May 4.
"Our responsibility is to equip our children for a time unlike ours, with conditions different from ours," he said in a post on social media.
The UAE has made several moves in recent years to become a global leader in advanced technology.
In 2017, it created the world’s first ministry dedicated to emerging tech and later opened a university focused on digital research in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier this year, the UAE also announced plans to invest up to 50 billion euros in a major data centre project in France.
The new school programme is expected to make the country one of the first in the world to introduce such lessons at all grade levels.
