UN Deputy Secretary-General visits Sudan: Video

The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, arrived in Sudan on Thursday, August 29, to reinforce the UN's commitment to the country's peace and development.

During her visit, Mohammed met with Sudanese officials, including the Prime Minister and other high-ranking government representatives, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the UN and Sudan.

The talks focused on addressing humanitarian challenges.

Mohammed also engaged with civil society organisations, women's groups, and youth representatives to understand their perspectives on the country's challenges and opportunities.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a war between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict has claimed thousands of lives and caused a severe humanitarian crisis. Thousands of displaced people fled to neighbouring Chad, adding pressure to the impoverished country.
