UN reports over 1 million people internally displaced in Haiti: Video
The United Nations has reported a staggering increase in the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) in Haiti, with the figure now surpassing one million. This marks a threefold increase in displacement over the past year, driven primarily by escalating gang violence and a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
Haiti has been grappling with severe gang violence, particularly in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021 has led to a power vacuum, exacerbating the violence and instability. Armed groups now control large swathes of the city, making it difficult for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
