Venezuelan migrant dreams of US national amputee soccer stardom: Video

Juan Carlos Vargas, a determined athlete who lost his leg in a road accident, refuses to let his past define his future.
Now living in the United States, he trains relentlessly with his Metro New York Amputee FC teammates, hoping to one day represent his adopted homeland in amputee soccer.
On March 16, 2025, Vargas was seen skillfully controlling the ball during a training session at the team's Long Island base.
"I never let my injury stop me. Soccer has always been my passion, and I want to prove that nothing is impossible," Vargas shared with the AFP after a recent practice session.
The 41-year-old Venezuelan migrant has faced immense challenges, including a perilous journey from his home country to the U.S. But despite these hardships, his passion for the game and his determination to succeed remain unwavering.
