Viral Olympic village muffins arrive in New York: Video
The viral muffins from the Olympic Village have officially landed in New York City, bringing a taste of Olympic history to the public.
Angel Zheng, the 24-year-old owner of Isshiki Matcha, is behind the import of these coveted treats, now available in the East Village.
"Hi, I’m Angel, the owner of Isshiki Matcha. We’ve imported a thousand Olympic muffins for everyone to try," Zheng is quoted by the AFP. "It’s not about the recipe; it’s about being part of Olympic history. You might not be an Olympic athlete, and you can’t go to the Olympic Village, but you can have a piece of the Olympics here in New York City," she added.
Zheng detailed the effort behind bringing the muffins stateside, noting the logistical challenges. "As soon as the French cargo was on the plane, it was all up to us. We had to clear customs, go through FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) approval ourselves, and handle all the ground transportation in New York," she explained. These extra steps contributed to the muffins' price of $10 each.
Despite the cost, the demand for the Olympic muffins has been strong, with many eager to experience a slice of the viral sensation.
