Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Oren Marmorstein says Israel "will act against Hamas with increasing military intensity" during a press briefing to international media. "We have reached this situation after the Hamas repeatedly refused proposals to extend ceasefire and to release our hostages".

The Israeli army carried out a wave of deadly overnight strikes on Gaza, the most intense since a ceasefire began last January, killing more than 400 people according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.
