The Group of Seven countries, with the exception of the United States, discussed how to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement last week of sweeping tariffs, Italy's economy minister said on Wednesday.

"Within the G7 all of us outside the U.S. spoke to try to calm the situation and find a way to bring the Trump administration to the table and to a reasonable position," Giorgetti told reporters in Rome.

He added that Italy welcomed Trump's announcement on Wednesday that he had suspended many of the tariff hikes for 90 days.
