Ismail Akwei

Ismail Akwei is an international journalist, media innovator, and founder of the Media Literacy Development Foundation, a nonprofit advancing democratic values among African youth through media and digital literacy. He is the founding editor of Global South World and has led digital news teams at leading platforms, including Africanews. In recognition of his leadership in media freedom, civic engagement, and media literacy, Ismail was named a 2024 McCain Global Leader by the McCain Institute.
